QUICK HITS

Rangers became first team to win Game 1 in a Wolrd Series after trailing by two or more runs in the ninth inning or later.

— The 2015 Royals were the last team to to that in any other game of a World Series. They trailed the Mets 2-0 in the top of the ninth of Game 5, and rallied for a 7-2, 12-inning win to clinch the series.

— Rangers Corey Seager was the first player to hit a score-tying or go-ahead home run with his team trailing by two or more runs in the ninth or later of a World Series game since 2001 when Tino Martinez (Game 4) and Scott Brosius (Game 5) delivered score-tying two-run home runs off Arizona’s Byung-Hyun Kim with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.

— Adolis Garcia had three hits, a walk and hit by pitch, only the second player to reach base safely at least five times in his World Series debut. Paul Molitor did that in 1982 with St. Louis.

— Garcia is the second player to hit a walk-off home run in his first World Series game. Dusty Roads did that as a pinchitter for the Giants in the 10th inning of Game 1 in 1954.

— Garcia is the fourth player to hit a home run in five or more consecutive post-season games in one year. Daniel Murphy (2015 Mets) had a record six-game home run streak, and Carlos Beltran (2004 Astros) and Giancarlo Stanton (2020 Yankees) had five-game streaks.

— Merrill Kelly has allowed nine hits in three post-season starts, although five were extra-base hits.

— Kelly’s opponents batting average in his three starts (.153) is the lowest of any three-start span in his major-league career.

— Jordan Montgomery won Game 1 of the ALCS as a starter and Game 7 as a relievers. He is the first MLB pitcher to win Game 1 and Game 7 of a best-of-seven series with one win and one relief appearance.

— In 1912, however, Smokey Joe Wood did win Game 1 of the World Series as a stater, and the decisive Game 8 as a reliever. Game 2 was a tie.
