Bryant Opens Spring Intent On Erasing Disappointment Of Rockies Debut

After the disappointment of his Rockies debut with an injury-riddled a year ago, Kris Bryant feels he needs to reinforce what he is capable of doing to return the favor to the Rockies for signing him as a free agent a year ago.

He certainly looked like he was in command in the Rockies 12-5 spring training opener against Arizona on Saturday afternnon. He went 1-for-2

Prime prospect Zac Veen went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run. and run-scoring double.

Postgame Notes

  • Non-roster invitee Harold Castro led off the game with a double and followed with a two-RBI triple in his next at-bat … the infielder finished the game 2-for-3.

  • Kris Bryant reached in the first inning on a fielder’s choice and came around to score the Rockies’ first run of Spring on a Ryan McMahon double … Bryant singled in the second inning, finishing the game 1-for-2.

  • Ty Blach inherited bases-loaded and two outs in the second inning and was able to get out of the jam … the left-hander tossed 1.1 shutout frames, allowing one hit while striking out one.

  • Outfielders Zac Veen and Brenton Doyle clubbed back-to-back doubles in the sixth inning in each of their first at-bats of Spring … Doyle collected a pair of RBI with his knock … Veen followed with a home run to lead off the eighth inning, the Rockies’ second long ball of the game.

  • Coco Montes recorded the Rockies’ first home run of Spring with a two-run shot to left-center in the seventh inning … the second baseman finished the contest 2-for-2 with two RBI.

  • Elehuris Montero reached base in all three plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with one walk and one run scored.

  • Matt Koch pitched a three-up, three-down frame to close the game.
