Prospect Suspended For Performance-Enhancing Substances

Colorado Rockies Minor League first baseman Ronny Ugarte, who is currently on the roster of the Dominican Summer League Rockies, received a 56-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Boldenone, a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the Program.

Detroit Tigers Minor League pitcher Luis Acosta, who is currently on the roster of the Dominican Summer League Tigers, has received a 56-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Stanozolol, a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the Program.

The suspensions of both players will be effective at the start of the 2024 DSL season.

The left-handed hitting Urgarte, who is 6-3 and weights 205 pound, spent the last two years in the Dominican Summer League, where he has hit .305 in 92 games with 10 home runs, 64 RBI and 34 doubles.

He is among at least 22 Latin American players the Rockies signed to minor-league contracts in 2022. A native of Venezuela, Urgarte signed for a $250,000 bonus in 2022.
