Hartford, Spokane Provide Tuesday Night Bright Spot Down On the Rockies Farm

AAA Albuquerque (46-63) Lost 10-5 at Rangers affiliate Round Rock (61-47)

Round Rock exploded for a seven-run fourth inning with home runs from Matt Whatley (his third), David Wendzel (a three-run short for his 20th) and Dustin Harris (a three-run shot for his fourth).

LHP Josh Rogers (4-7, 8.02) was the victim of the Round Rock explosiong, allowing 10 runs on 12 hits and two walks, giving up three home runs and striking out one in 3 2/3 innings.

First baseman Hunter Goodman delivered an eighth-inning grand slam for the Isotopes. Center fielder Wynton Bernard (.313) went 2-for-5 with a run scored.

AA Hartford (43-56) won 8-1 at Boston Red Sox affiliate Portland (58-45)

Hartford exploded for a seven-run rally in the 10th inning. The Yard Goats needed only eight hits to score their eight runs in the game. Yard Goats second baseman Kyle Datres (.260) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, and catcher Drew Romo (.237) went 2-for-5 with a run scored and two rBI.

The Yard Goats combined for only eight hits while Portland had 10 hits but managed to score only one run.

Nick Kuzla (3-1, 4.38) was credited with the win, working 1 1/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Yard Goat starter Nick Kuzla (3-1, 4.93) worked 1 1/3 innings and was credited with the win.

With the score tied at 1-1 in the 10th, Warming Bernabel delivered a single, loading the bases, setting up the Yard Goats game-winning rally.

Drew Romo followed with a two-run ground-rule double, and Kyle Datres singled to center, scoring Bernabel and Romo for a 5-1 lead.

Niko Decolati scored on an ensuing wilde pitch from Portland reliever Dylan Spaeke, allowing Datres to advanced to third and Grant Lavigne to second. Jordan Beck ground out second to first, but Datres scored and Lagine took third, setting up Lavigne scoring the seventh run on Yanquiel Fernandez sacrifice fly.

Righthander Case Williams started for the Yard Goats, allowing one riun on six hits and a walk, striking out two in 5 1/3 innings, and Nick Kuzia picked up the win. Kuzia (3-1, 4.93) worked 1 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and a walk, but no runs.

High A Spokane (49-53) won 7-2 vs. Diamondbacks affiliate Hillsboro

Spokane scored twice in both the first and second inning, setting the tone for the Rockies affiliate to claim a 7-2 victory against Diamondbacks affiliate Hillsboro. Left-handed reliever Evan Shawver (2-3, 5.68) was credited with the win, working three scoreless innings in which he allowed one hit, walked two and struck out five. RHP Cullen Kafka (4.76) started for Spokane, but came out of the game afte 2 2/3 innings, having allowed two runs on five hits and three walks, striking out two.

Right fielder Braiden Ward (.289) went 2-for-4 with a double and two runsscored. Center fielder Benny Montgomer (.274) went 1-for-4 and scored twice. Shortstop Ryan Ritter (.242) was 1-for-3 with a double, run scored and RBI. First baseman Ben Sems (.250) went 2-for-5.

And the Indians acocmplished all of that despite going 2-for-20 with runners in scoring position.

Dyan Ray (6-6,4.06) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks, striking out two for the only two outs he achieved.

A Fresno (63-40) lost 10-5 to San Francisco affiliate San Jose (57-46)

Fresno scored twice in the top of the first, but by the end of the fifth, San Jose had taken a 6-4 lead and didn’t look back.

Rockies affiliate Fresno did scored two runs in the second and two more in the fourth, but couldn’t keep up with San Jose’s pace, which included RH reliever Wilkelma Castillo (3-0, 1.84) coming out of the bullpen to working three scoreless innings, in which he gave up one hit and one walk.

Gabrial Barbosa (7-4, 4.81) suffered the loss for Fresno. Rightfielder EJ Andrews, Jr., (.214) accounted for three of Fresno’s five runs. Andrews went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.
