This is the saddest day of the year. They played Game 7 in the World Series Wednesday night. That means the cold turkey withdrawal starts on Thursday. For all the excitement that can be created by a winner-take-all Game 7 there is a reality that can’t be ignored. This is the final baseball game of the year. The Dodgers upset the A’s in the 1988 World Series, which will long be remembered for Kirk Gibson, bad leg and all, hitting the walk-off home run off Dennis Eckerlsey. That World Series, however, is the most recent post-season memory for the Dodgers to relish. They seem intent on changing that in this, their 11th trip to the post-season since 1988.
