The Yankees just won’t quit. They have won four elimination games in the eight days of the post-season. First they beat the Twins in the Wild-Card Game, and then, after losing the first two games of the NLDS to the Indians they won three in a row, becoming the fourth team to fall behind 2-games-to-none in the Division Series and not only win the next three games, but win the clincher on the road. They joined the 2012 Giants at the Reds, and the Red Sox at the Indians in 1999 and the at the A’s in 2003.

The Indians committed two errors in the ninth inning of their elimination game against the Yankees on Wednesday night, giving them three for the game and a Division Series record nine for the five-game matchup with the Yankees. That’s two more errors than any other team in the Division Series, which was added to the post-season schedule in 1995. The Cubs, earlier in the day, tied what had been the record with seven, and they do have a Game 5 at Washington on Thursday night in which they could catch or pass the Indians.
Indans catcher Roberto Perez had the team’s first error on Wednesday when he was called for catcher’s interference in the second inning. Then, in the ninth, Jay Bruce was charged with an error on Aaron Hicks’ one-out. Then, with two out, Brett Gardner singled home Aaron Hicks, and on Jay Bruce’s throwing error Todd Frazier scored the game’s final run.

The Indians have lost 17 of their last 20 post-season games in which they had a chance to clinch a series, including the last six games in a row — three against the Cubs in the World Series a year ago and three against the Yankees in the Division Series this year. They are 0-7 at home during that stretch in those potential clinching games.
