The Rockies found themselves at the mercy of the Brewers and the Padres. The D-Backs, who already had clinched the NL West title, came to Coors Field and knocked off the rockies 4-2, leaving the Rockies one loss of their own or a Padres win at Milwaukee on the final two scheduled games of the regular season away from elimination.
The D-Backs jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the expense of Rockies ace Jeff Francis, scoring once in the first and twice in the third on a two-run home run by first baseman Conor Jackson. Francis would get his eventual revenge — beating the D-Backs in Game 1 of the NLCS sweep by the Rockies, who then advanced to the World Series.
